Bin requests and issues
This page is to make a request or report an issue with a residential bin. If you have a request or issue with a business bin, please visit our waste & recycling for business page for more information.
Missing, stolen or damaged bin
Residents within Adelaide city and North Adelaide may request a bin repair or replacement if you meet one of the below requirements:
- you have moved into a new address and the bin is missing
- your bin has been stolen
- your bin has a missing or damaged lid, or damaged wheels (note: lids and wheels will generally be repaired)
- your bin has holes or cracks in the body of the bin.
New bin requests
Requests for new red, yellow or green bins can be made with Cleanaway:
- online using the Resident Waste Portal
- by calling 1800 777 844 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday.
Stolen bins
Has your red, yellow or green bin gone missing?
To get a replacement you can report to Cleanaway:
- online using the Resident Waste Portal
- by calling 1800 777 844 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday.
Damaged bins
Damaged bins will be repaired or replaced.
If your bin is damaged you can report it to Cleanaway:
- online using the Resident Waste Portal
- by calling 1800 777 844 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday.
Missed bin collection
If your bin collection was missed you can report it to Cleanaway:
- online using the Resident Waste Portal
- by calling 1800 777 844 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday.
Bins left on street
If bins are left on the footpath or street 24 hours before or after collection, you can report it to us.
The best ways to report during business hours, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday, are:
- using our online bin left on footpath/street form
- calling the Customer Centre on (08) 8203 7203
- in person at our Customer Centre
Outside business hours using our online bin left on footpath/street form is best.
What we need to know
To investigate reports of bins left on footpath/street we need:
- full address or detailed location of the bin
- the bin type (ie. general waste, recycling or organics)
- details of any signage at the location
- any other relevant information
In case we need more information we will also collect your:
- name
- email address
- phone number.
What happens next
We aim to investigate reports within three business days.
It may take longer if we require more information.
Bin no longer needed
If you no longer require a bin you can report it to Cleanaway:
- online using the Resident Waste Portal
- by calling 1800 777 844 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday.
Swap, upsize or downsize a bin
Residents can swap, upsize or downsize some waste services.
Swapping a bin
You can swap between 140L and 240L yellow recycling or green organics bins.
To arrange a bin swap call Cleanaway on 1800 777 844 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday.
Upsizing a bin
Residents can upsize bins if their regular waste service is not suitable.
Costs for upsized services can be found in the fees and charges schedule.
Options include upsizing:
- red general waste bin to a 240L service
- yellow recycling bin to a 360L service
- green organics bin to a 240L service.

Downsizing a bin
If you no longer require an upsized service, you can downsize your bin.
Call us on (08) 8203 7203 or visit us in person at our Customer Centre to request downsize a service.
What happens next
After you have lodged your request, you will need to put your empty bin out on the kerb until it has been replaced.
Your bin must be empty to be swapped.
If your bin already has waste in it, you can either:
- remove the rubbish from the bin and lodge a request for the bin to be replaced, or
- lodge a request after your scheduled collection day.
