Key Biodiversity Area 7
The City’s newest KBA. Upgraded to reflect the significance of the area’s natural systems.
Located between the West Terrace Cemetery and Sir Donald Bradman Drive, the target ecological community for KBA 7 is Eucalyptus porosa (Mallee Box) Woodland. This is reflected in the dryland areas of the KBA, while the wetland areas resemble a Eucalyptus camaldulensis (River Red Gum) Woodland over native rush- and sedgeland.
Managed as Community Education Hub between 2018 and 2024, the area includes the Wirrarninthi Wetlands and a vegetated creek line and was re-classified as a KBA due to sustained revegetation of native species and current good ecological condition.
When visiting KBA 7, keep an eye out for native bees and reptiles, as well as an ear out for native frogs.
By protecting and enhancing this area, we can restore ecological processes and improve habitat, providing a healthier environment for all living organisms, including us humans.
