Key Biodiversity Area 4
This area is bordered by horse paddocks and residential development yet maintains zones of high-quality remnant vegetation.
Located in the north Adelaide Park Lands, the target ecological community for KBA 4 is Eucalyptus leucoxylon (SA Blue Gum) / E. camaldulensis (River Red Gum) Woodland with Eucalyptus porosa (Mallee Box) Woodland.
In addition to the dominant SA Blue Gum and River Red Gum overstorey, this community also commonly contains Native Cherry, Drooping Sheoak, and Golden Wattle, with a diverse mid- and understorey of shrubs, grasses and forbs.
When visiting KBA 4, keep and eye out for native lilies and butterflies and, if visiting at dusk, you may encounter Adelaide’s Brushtail and Ringtail Possums.
By protecting and enhancing this area, we can restore ecological processes and improve habitat, providing a healthier environment for all living organisms, including us humans.
