Your guide to the Christmas Pageant

The 2024 National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant will kick off from 9:30 am Saturday 2 November and finish up around 11:30 am in Rundle Mall.

The city streets will be filled with festive cheer as people gather to welcome Father Christmas to Adelaide.

Parking

Enjoy a hassle-free parking experience no matter which direction you’re coming from – finding a park is the last thing you want to be thinking about on pageant morning.

UPark 218 Flinders Street and UPark 247 Pirie Street prices:

  • $5 parking when you scan the QR code at the car park and pay via the UPark app
  • $6 parking when you pay using the ticket machine

Please note, standard pricing is available at UPark Frome, UPark Rundle and UPark Central Market. UPark Gawler is closed for Pageant morning and reopens once the road closures are lifted.

Public transport

Additional bus, train and tram services will operate before and after the National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant.

Road closures and detours will affect bus and tram services, with the GLNELG and FESTVL tram lines running to South Terrace only. Bus detours and stop closures will be available soon.

Trains to Adelaide Railway Station will run as normal, with additional services operating before and after the event.

Road closures

Various road closures are required from Wednesday 1 November to Saturday 4 November to conduct the 2024 National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant.

Between 9:30 am on Wednesday 30 October 2024 and 9:00 pm on Friday 1 November 2024 the following road restrictions will apply.

  • Reconciliation Plaza (eastbound lanes) between Grote Street and Wakefield Street

Between 9:00 pm on Friday 1 November 2024 and 6:00 pm on Sunday 3 November 2024, the following road will, be closed:

  • Reconciliation Plaza between Grote Street and Wakefield Street

Between 4:00 pm on Friday 1 November 2024 and 5:00 am on Saturday 2 November 2024, the following road restrictions will apply.

  • South Terrace (eastbound carriageways) between Symonds Place and Downer Place.
  • Wakefield Street (1 x eastbound and 1 x westbound lane) between Victoria Place and Pulteney Street.
  • Between 12:01 am and 1:00 pm on Saturday 2 November 2024, the following road will be closed:
  • Hindmarsh Square (eastern carriageway) between Grenfell Street and Pirie Street

Between 5:00 am and 1:00 pm on Saturday 2 November 2024, the following roads will be closed:

  • King William Street between South Terrace and North Terrace
  • South Terrace Between O'Halloran Street and King William Street
  • Peacock Road between Greenhill Road and South Terrace
  • Gilbert Street between Tapley Street and King William Street
  • Halifax Street between Symonds Place and King William Street
  • Wright Street between John Street and King William Street
  • Carrington Street between Kent Street and King William Street
  • Angas Street between Victoria Square/ Tarntanyangga (eastern carriageway) and King William Street
  • Gouger Street between Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga (western carriageway) and King William Street
  • Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga in its entirely

Between 5:00 am and 2:00pm on Saturday 2 November 2024, the following roads will be closed:

  • South Terrace between King William Street and a point 316.66 meters east
  • Currie Street between King William Street and Light Square
  • Bloor Court in its entirely
  • Leigh Street from Currie Street to a point 20 meters north
  • Peel Street between Currie Street and Hindley Street
  • Gilbert Place between Currie Street and King William Street
  • Gilles Arcade between Playhouse Lane and Currie Street
  • Playhouse Lane between Gilles Arcade and Light Square

National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant route map

The Pageant starts at the corner of South Terrace and King William Street at 9:30 am and winds its way through the streets of Adelaide, finishing in Rundle Mall at approximately 11:30 am.

From South Terrace, the parade will head north on King William Street, pass west of Victoria Square / Tarntanyangga, go through Reconciliation Plaza on Wakefield Street, turn left onto Pulteney Street, then left onto North Terrace, and finally head south on King William Street, ending at Beehive Corner at Rundle Mall.

From Beehive Corner, Father Christmas will be accompanied by a band and dance group through Rundle Mall to a stage at the Gawler Place canopy, where he will deliver his special Christmas message to the people of South Australia.
