Share your musical treasures and stories to help us celebrate ten years of Adelaide as a UNESCO City of Music.
Adelaide's designation as a UNESCO City of Music is a celebration of its vibrant and diverse music culture. From world-renowned festivals to its thriving independent music scene, Adelaide is a hub for creativity and musical innovation.
Home to leading music institutions, live venues and an ever-growing community of talented local artists, Adelaide has both a rich musical heritage and an influence in shaping music culture worldwide.
To celebrate the ten-year anniversary as a UNESCO City of Music, we are inviting Adelaide’s collectors, historians, musicians and fans to share music related items that tell a story about Adelaide, mark iconic moments, or are unique.
Items might include but are not limited to:
- concert tickets, posters, programs, merchandise
- personal or gifted souvenirs and other ephemera
- books, magazines, journals
- photographs
- vinyl records, CDs, tapes, film / video footage and digital media
- instruments and other objects
- associated paraphernalia
Select items will be on display in the Adelaide Town Hall, City Library, and shared digitally where appropriate through 2025 to celebrate our city as a UNESCO City of Music and to share our vital community.
How to submit your item/s
To submit your item/s for consideration please complete the expression of interest form by 5pm, Sunday 15 December 2024. You will be notified of the outcome in January.

Selected items will:
- Connect to the City of Adelaide
- Be relevant to the celebration of Tarntanya / Adelaideas a UNESCO City of Music
- Lead to impactful storytelling and interpretation, both personal and historical
- Be suitable for public display, including logistic considerations. Eg: dimensions, weight, condition of the items
Please note the following for consideration:
- Items must be specific to the music history and memories of the City of Adelaide
- Preferential consideration will be given to items that reference performances, activities, or milestones held at the Adelaide Town Hall or City of Adelaide civic spaces.
- Size guide – items on physical display will need to fit in our display cabinets which have limited capacity – maximum height 1300cm, width 1000cm and depth of 30cm
- Please ensure items submitted for consideration are available and in a condition suitable for public display
- The City of Adelaide Council will provide promotional, install and deinstall support for the displays, and cover approved event or festival registration fees if applicable
- Items must not point to any belief or idea at the exclusion of others and be suitable for display to a G Rated audience.
- Owners are responsible for the insurance, packaging, delivery and collection of all pieces
- Images of collections may be reproduced in print and electronic media for publicity purposes and by City of Adelaide for archival purposes
- The Adelaide Town Hall is a significant icon in the history of South Australia and is a place of the people. The City Library serves as welcoming community hubs where people of all ages engage in learning, creativity, and connection.
